The Bakersfield, California community is mourning the devastating loss of Omar Zacarias, 49, and Silvia Reyes, 51, who were killed in a violent multi-vehicle crash Thursday evening at the intersection of Harris Road and Summer Springs Drive. The collision, which involved three vehicles, also claimed the life of another driver, leaving a total of three people dead.

According to preliminary reports, Zacarias and Reyes were seated in a Ford SUV when a Toyota SUV struck them from behind with significant force. The impact caused their vehicle to be pushed forward into a Honda sedan stopped ahead of them, resulting in a chain-reaction crash that left all three vehicles severely damaged.

Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene, but Omar Zacarias and Silvia Reyes were both pronounced dead at the location due to the severity of their injuries. Authorities confirmed that there was no chance of survival upon arrival.

The driver of the Toyota SUV, identified as 34-year-old Sandra Lee Slaydon, was critically injured in the crash and transported to Kern Medical. Despite life-saving efforts by medical staff, she was pronounced dead at 7:36 p.m., less than an hour after the collision.

Investigators are currently working to determine what caused the initial rear-end impact. Factors such as speed, visibility, and road conditions are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation, though no official conclusion has been released.
