Mattoon Community Mourns Beloved Leader Amanda Prater

The Mattoon community is grieving the loss of Amanda Marie Burwell Prater, age 52, who passed away on March 30, 2026, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital. Amanda’s passing has left a profound void in the hearts of her family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She is remembered not only for her accomplishments but for her warmth, dedication, and unwavering love for those around her.

Born on July 2, 1973, to Harold Eugene and Brenda Faye Burwell, Amanda built a life grounded in family, friendship, and service. On December 31, 1994, she married James “Jim” Roy Prater, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with love, shared memories, and mutual devotion. Together, they raised four children—TJ (Jamie) Prater, Allison (Ian) Fauke, Asher Prater, and Arabella Prater—alongside her cherished grandson, Matthew. Her family was the center of her life, and the love she shared with them created a lasting legacy of care, laughter, and guidance.

Amanda was also deeply respected in her professional life as Vice President of the Area Educational Credit Union. Known for her leadership, integrity, and genuine care for colleagues and members, she left an indelible mark on her workplace. Those who worked with her remember her ability to uplift others, solve challenges with grace, and approach every day with compassion and dedication.
