St. Louis County, Missouri authorities are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred at a local Steak ‘n Shake restaurant after a drive-thru dispute escalated into gun violence, leaving one employee dead and another injured. The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Jada Bell of Northwoods, has been charged with multiple serious offenses.
According to prosecutors, the incident took place on April 8 in the 11000 block of Bellefontaine Road. Bell was in the restaurant’s drive-thru when an argument broke out between her and employees over her order. The situation quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.
Officials say Bell threw a cup at employee Chauncia Meekins, 32, who then responded by throwing a drink back. At that moment, investigators allege Bell pulled out a firearm and opened fire on the employees.
Meekins was struck multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Another employee was also shot in the hand but survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
Surveillance footage from the restaurant captured the incident, and investigators also confirmed that Bell’s cell phone was in the area at the time of the shooting, according to charging documents.
The case has deeply impacted the victim’s family and the local community. Meekins’ mother described her daughter as hardworking, kind, and full of life. She had recently taken on multiple jobs and was preparing to celebrate her 33rd birthday just days after her death.
