St. Louis, Missouri authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Wednesday afternoon near the Delmar Loop area after a dispute between two men escalated into deadly violence following a MetroBus ride.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Hodiamont Avenue shortly after 3 p.m. after reports of gunfire. When police arrived, they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite emergency response efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary information from passengers aboard the MetroBus suggests that the incident began as a verbal argument between two men while riding the bus. Witnesses stated that the conflict escalated when one of the men exited the bus to retrieve a bicycle from the front rack.
At that moment, authorities allege the other individual followed and shot the victim in the back of the head, resulting in fatal injuries.
No suspect information or victim identification has been released at this time as investigators continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses. The area was temporarily secured while police processed the scene and collected statements from those nearby.
