What began as an adventurous family outing quickly turned into an unimaginable tragedy for the family of Cory Hartman, a 43-year-old father whose life ended in a sudden accident on the slopes of Vermont’s Sugarbush Resort.
Hartman was spending the day with his wife and three daughters, sharing in the excitement of skiing down Stein’s Run, a trail known for its steep, double-black diamond challenge. It was the kind of moment families cherish—laughter echoing through the cold air, the thrill of the descent, and the simple joy of being together.
But in a matter of seconds, everything changed.
Mid-afternoon, Hartman lost control while skiing. What started as a fall quickly escalated into something far more serious as he slid off the marked trail and into a wooded area. Ski patrol responded swiftly, locating him unresponsive among the trees. Despite their rapid efforts to bring him down the mountain and rush him to medical care, his injuries proved fatal.
