According to official emergency response updates from the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, multi-agency rescue squads rushed to Kentucky Route 312 near the Keavy community at approximately 10:43 p.m. Preliminary forensic findings indicate that what began as an ordinary evening errand to get food erupted into a violent hostage situation when 21-year-old James Priddy refused to allow Kira and his girlfriend, 18-year-old Jadence Hale, to exit his vehicle.
When Barbourville Police attempted a traffic stop near California Hollow, Priddy initiated a high-speed pursuit exceeding 100 mph that crossed county lines. The chase ended tragically near Roscoe’s Market when the suspect vehicle struck a police cruiser and collided head-on with a Chevrolet Tahoe. Upon approaching the vehicle, deputies discovered that Priddy had shot and killed both Kira and Jadence before turning the firearm on himself.
