According to official updates from the Maple Shade Youth Baseball league and regional medical personnel, the tragedy occurred on Tuesday afternoon while Xavier was warming up on the field prior to a scheduled game. As he was walking toward the dugout, another player inadvertently threw a ball that violently struck Xavier in the back of the neck. The high-impact trauma caused him to collapse instantly and go into cardiac arrest. Emergency medical teams administered immediate on-site resuscitation before an air ambulance crew airlifted the youth to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he was placed on a ventilator in extremely critical condition.
