BESSBROOK, COUNTY ARMAGH — The close-knit, historic village community of Bessbrook and the broader surrounding countryside of County Armagh are joined in a state of profound sadness and heavyhearted mourning following the peaceful passing of Alan Weir, whose death occurred at his residence on Monday, June 1, 2026. A highly respected lifelong resident of 27 Main Street, a proud father, and a loyal friend, Weir passed away quietly while completely surrounded by the protective embrace of his deeply devoted family. His departure has left an immeasurable emotional void in the hearts of his immediate relatives and local neighborhood networks.

Alan lived his entire life with quiet strength, dignity, and an unwavering commitment to his household. As the beloved husband of Lorna, he shared a beautiful life built entirely on partnership, love, and constant mutual support. He was a dedicated father to his three adult sons—Stephen (Tara), Mark (Stephanie), and Robert (Andrea)—and took immense personal pride in watching their individual lives and accomplishments unfold. Furthermore, his cherished role as “Granda Alan” brought him unmatched joy in his later years, as he deeply adored and treasured every single moment spent with his four grandchildren: Harry, Sophie, Emily, and Kenzie.

Weir was preceded in death by his loving parents, Noel and Lila, whose values heavily shaped his compassionate nature. He is lovingly survived by his four siblings, David, Irene, Noel, and Caroline, alongside an extensive network of nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

Friends are warmly invited to pay their formal respects at Mallon’s Funeral Home on Mill Road, where Alan will repose on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday, a traditional funeral cortège will respectfully pass along Fountain Street on foot at 10:30 a.m., making its way to Christ Church Bessbrook for an 11:00 a.m. service, followed by a private cremation at Lakelands Crematorium. In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted for Evora Hospice, Newry.
