COLBERT, WA — The Washington State Patrol (WSP) is investigating a fatal traffic collision that claimed the life of Drake Britton on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred at approximately 12:00 p.m. on U.S. Route 2 near milepost 299, specifically in the area of Carney Road just south of Colbert. According to investigators, the crash involved Britton’s motorcycle and a pickup truck that was towing a horse trailer at the time of the impact.
Emergency response teams, including personnel from the Washington State Patrol and a LifeFlight helicopter, were immediately dispatched to the scene following reports of critical injuries. Despite the rapid arrival of advanced medical support and extensive lifesaving efforts, authorities confirmed that Britton succumbed to the catastrophic injuries sustained during the collision. The occupants of the pickup truck were not immediately reported to have sustained serious injuries.
The fatal accident necessitated the immediate closure of the northbound lanes of Highway 2, causing significant traffic congestion throughout north Spokane County. While limited traffic flow was eventually restored, portions of the roadway remained shuttered for several hours as WSP detectives conducted a thorough scene reconstruction and cleared debris from the heavily damaged vehicles.
At this stage, the Washington State Patrol has not released a formal determination regarding the cause of the crash. The ongoing investigation will assess whether environmental factors, speed, or other contributing variables played a role in the tragedy. As the news of Drake Britton’s passing spreads through the Spokane community, friends and family are gathering to support one another, honoring the memory of a young man whose life was cut short in a sudden and devastating road incident.
