Authorities in Louisville, Kentucky have launched a homicide investigation following the discovery of a deceased individual in the Chickasaw neighborhood on Saturday afternoon. The incident has raised concerns among residents as police work to determine what led to the fatal shooting.
According to the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD), officers responded to reports of a body in the 700 block of Dearborn Avenue around 2:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers secured the scene to allow emergency responders to assess the situation. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary findings from investigators indicate that the victim sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen, which is believed to have caused their death. The case was quickly handed over to the LMPD Homicide Unit, which has since taken the lead in the ongoing investigation.
At this time, authorities have not released the identity, age, or gender of the victim, pending further investigation and notification of next of kin. Police have also not announced any suspects or possible motives connected to the shooting.
Investigators spent several hours canvassing the neighborhood, speaking with residents and searching for any surveillance footage or eyewitness accounts that may help piece together the events leading up to the incident.
