Jamestown, Rhode Island — The community is mourning the unexpected loss of Emerson DuVally Bessinger, 20, who passed away on April 12, 2026. His sudden passing has left family, friends, and loved ones grieving a young life filled with promise, kindness, and genuine compassion.

Born at Newport Hospital and raised in Newport and Jamestown, Rhode Island, Emerson was known for his warm heart and respectful nature. A graduate of North Kingstown High School, he was continuing his education at the Community College of Rhode Island and had recently begun pursuing his goal of becoming a United States Marine, proudly following a long-standing family tradition.

Emerson’s personality left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. He carried himself with humility and kindness, often going out of his way to treat others with respect. Whether interacting with strangers or loved ones, he was known for ending conversations with a heartfelt “I love you,” a reflection of the deep care he had for those around him.

His interests were wide-ranging, from building custom computers to working on cars as a self-taught mechanic. He also found joy in outdoor activities and demonstrated a deep sense of compassion through caring for a hospice foster dog, offering comfort and love in its final days.
