A disturbing case unfolding in court has left many struggling to comprehend the level of alleged cruelty involved. A married couple stands accused of keeping a vulnerable woman as a live-in “slave,” controlling nearly every aspect of her life during what prosecutors describe as a harrowing 10-month ordeal.
The woman, an Indonesian national, had reportedly arrived expecting to stay for only a short period in early 2022. Instead, her situation allegedly took a dark turn when she was accused of losing a company credit card. From that moment, it is claimed she was forced to “work off” a supposed debt—one that prosecutors say became the justification for ongoing abuse and control.
According to details presented in court, the woman was subjected to strict limitations, including being fed little more than Weet-Bix cereal while being made to carry out domestic chores and care for children without pay. Prosecutors allege she was also forced to sleep on the stairs and lived in poor conditions, cut off from independence or support.
The case came to light after a nurse reportedly noticed injuries on the woman’s body and alerted authorities. This intervention triggered an investigation that has since revealed deeply troubling allegations of coercion, deprivation, and mistreatment.
