GO Train Disruptions Today: Major Delays Ripple Across GTA After Union Station Signal Failure

Greater Toronto Area, Ontario — Thousands of GO Transit riders across the GTA faced a frustrating commute today after a signal issue at Union Station caused widespread service disruptions, delays, and cancellations throughout the network. While early concerns from passengers raised questions about a possible accident, officials confirmed that no GO train crash or derailment occurred. The disruption was entirely related to a critical infrastructure malfunction.

Metrolinx, the agency that operates GO Transit, stated that the signal failure impacted train movement through Union Station, the heart of the GO network. Because nearly all lines pass through this hub, the issue quickly triggered system-wide delays, with some riders reporting waits of up to two hours. Several trips were canceled outright, while others were forced to stop and hold at stations until clearance was given.

Repair crews were dispatched immediately and worked throughout the day to stabilize the signaling system. However, officials warned that residual delays would continue even after repairs, as trains and crews needed to be repositioned across the network. GO Transit advised customers to plan extra travel time, monitor live service alerts, and consider alternative transportation options where possible.
