JONES COUNTY, TX — The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a fatal motorcycle accident that occurred on Monday evening, claiming the life of 22-year-old Mason Alkire. The collision took place at approximately 7:30 p.m. on State Highway 6, just south of Farm-to-Market Road 704. According to preliminary reports, Alkire—a resident of Barton, Maryland—was operating a 2025 Kawasaki Ninja northbound when the fatal sequence of events unfolded.
Investigators indicate that the incident occurred as Alkire was attempting to overtake another vehicle. Upon returning to the northbound lane, he was reportedly unable to control his speed, leading to a high-velocity collision with the rear of a 2022 Ford 350 truck. The truck, which was towing a 2025 Big Tex dump semi-trailer, was also traveling northbound. The driver of the Ford, identified as 42-year-old Jeremy Harris of Stamford, Texas, was wearing a seatbelt and escaped the incident without injury.
Emergency services arrived at the scene shortly after the impact; however, the severity of the injuries proved fatal. Mason Alkire was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Cheryl Guemsey. DPS officials noted that weather conditions were clear and the road surface was dry at the time of the crash. Furthermore, it was confirmed that Alkire was wearing a helmet.
The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to review the circumstances of the crash as part of an ongoing investigation to determine the exact factors that led to the inability to control speed during the lane change. As the news of the tragedy reaches his home state of Maryland, the Jones County community joins in offering support to a family facing the sudden and devastating loss of a young man whose life ended far too soon.
