The Springfield, Illinois, community and the student body at Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) are joined in a state of profound grief following the tragic passing of Michael Roberson on April 29, 2026. A standout student-athlete and a resident of Minooka, Michael’s life was cut short following a devastating automobile accident in the early hours of the morning. His departure has left an immeasurable void across multiple Illinois campuses where he was respected for his athletic prowess, his academic dedication, and his unwavering commitment to his teammates.

Michael was a celebrated catcher for the LLCC Loggers baseball team, having recently joined the program after a successful stint at John A. Logan College. A proud graduate of Providence Catholic High School in New Lenox, he was recognized from a young age as a leader behind the plate—a player who possessed not only technical skill but a deep understanding of the game’s nuances. To his coaches, Michael was a “cornerstone of the roster,” known for his steady presence, his competitive fire, and his ability to uplift his fellow players during critical moments.

Beyond the diamond, Michael was a “cherished friend” whose warmth and sincerity made him a beloved figure in the Minooka and Springfield communities. Those who knew him best describe a young man of integrity who balanced the demands of collegiate athletics with a genuine care for his peers. As the news of the tragedy spread, an outpouring of support has emerged from teammates, alumni, and rivals alike, all uniting to honor the memory of a rising star whose promise was extinguished far too soon.

As the community reflects on Michael’s life, his legacy is found in the spirit of the game he loved and the countless lives he touched through his perseverance. Michael Roberson will be deeply missed and forever remembered by the Loggers family. May he rest in eternal peace.
