Justice Rutherford Teen Fatally Shot

The Kershaw County, South Carolina community continues to mourn the devastating loss of 17-year-old Justice Rutherford, whose life was tragically cut short in a 2022 shooting along Highway 1 South in Elgin. After years of grief and waiting, a jury has now delivered a verdict, bringing a measure of justice to a heartbroken family.

Authorities confirmed that Justice Rutherford was fatally shot while riding in a vehicle in July 2022. Investigators later determined that he was not the intended target, making the tragedy even more painful for those who loved him. The shooting stemmed from an incident involving another individual who was also in the car at the time.

Following a trial that included emotional testimony and extensive evidence, Troy Keitt was convicted on all charges related to the shooting. Jurors heard accounts placing him at the scene, along with statements indicating his involvement in firing at the vehicle.

The courtroom was filled with emotion as the verdict was read. For Rutherford’s family, the outcome marked a step toward justice after nearly four years of unimaginable loss. Keitt was sentenced to life in prison for murder, along with additional time for attempted murder and weapons charges.
