A bizarre and dangerous incident in New Orleans, Louisiana has left a neighborhood shaken after a group of suspected burglars opened fire on a parked pickup truck after being startled by a Halloween-themed decoy inside the vehicle. The shooting, which occurred Saturday morning, involved more than 30 gunshots, according to the vehicle’s owner.
The truck owner said the individuals were moving down the street attempting to break into vehicles when they reached his Toyota pickup. Inside, he had placed a mannequin in the passenger seat wearing a Michael Myers mask in an effort to deter theft.
According to the owner, the suspects initially tried to open the truck door but were startled when they saw the mannequin. That moment quickly escalated into violence. The suspects reportedly retreated and then returned fire, unloading dozens of rounds into the vehicle.
“I heard it was just crazy,” the owner said, describing how the situation unfolded in seconds. He estimated that the truck was hit nearly 20 times, with additional vehicles and even parts of a nearby home struck by stray bullets.
Neighbors reported being awakened by rapid gunfire, initially mistaking it for fireworks before realizing the severity of the situation. One resident said the number of shots made it clear something serious was happening outside.
Authorities confirmed that surveillance footage shows the suspects fleeing the scene in a silver Nissan Altima. No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.
