Kansas City, Missouri — The community is reeling after two separate shootings on Sunday evening, April 19, claimed the lives of two teenage boys, leaving families and residents in deep grief and searching for answers.

The first incident occurred near 110th Terrace and Greenwood around 6:30 p.m., where 17-year-old Demetrius Smith was found suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency responders arrived quickly and attempted life-saving measures, but he was later pronounced deceased due to his injuries.

Less than an hour later, at approximately 7:00 p.m., officers were called to a second shooting in the 7200 block of East 85th Terrace. There, 15-year-old Cavazion Williams was transported to a nearby hospital, where despite medical efforts, he was also pronounced deceased.

Kansas City police have confirmed that both incidents are being actively investigated, though at this time they have not stated whether the shootings are connected. Detectives are working to gather evidence, review witness statements, and determine what led to the fatal events that unfolded within such a short time frame.

The loss of Demetrius Smith and Cavazion Williams has deeply shaken the Kansas City, Missouri community. Both teenagers are being remembered as young lives full of potential, taken far too soon in acts of violence that have left families devastated.

As news of the tragedies spread, neighbors, friends, and community members have come together to express condolences and support for the grieving families. Vigils and tributes are expected as the community tries to process the emotional weight of the losses.
