A senseless and chilling attack on Chicago’s public transit system has sent shockwaves through the city. On January 10, 2026, 40-year-old Demetrius Thurman allegedly recorded himself as he fatally stabbed 37-year-old Dominique Pollion, a sleeping passenger, aboard a CTA Blue Line train. The horrifying assault, which took place in broad daylight, left Pollion with fatal injuries that he later succumbed to at a nearby hospital.
Prosecutors report that Thurman filmed the violent act as it unfolded, capturing the gruesome moments on his phone before turning the camera on himself. After the attack, he calmly fled the scene, leaving Pollion behind in a pool of blood. Authorities say Thurman showed no remorse and later used his cellphone footage to boast about the crime.
Thanks to surveillance footage from the train and cellphone videos provided by witnesses, police were able to quickly identify and arrest Thurman. He is now charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bond. The random nature of the attack, with no apparent motive or connection between Thurman and Pollion, has stunned both the victimโs family and the broader Chicago community.
