DeVonte Coleman’s Journey Cut Short, But His Spirit Shines On

It is with a heavy heart that we remember DeVonte, a young man whose life was tragically cut short but whose impact will be long-lasting. I had the privilege of teaching him at Istrouma High School through our Agriscience program, and later witnessing his story featured in the documentary Street Rider. From the start, DeVonte stood out—not just for his energy, but for the clear direction and determination he pursued in his life.

Riding his bike was more than a hobby—it was DeVonte’s outlet, his creative expression, and his way of connecting with the world around him. Through each ride, he cultivated a sense of purpose, inspiring peers and community members alike. His commitment to growth and his desire to be a role model for others reflected a maturity beyond his years.

DeVonte’s light, infectious enthusiasm, and dedication were evident in everything he did. Whether in the classroom, on the streets, or in front of the camera, he carried a spark that encouraged others to strive for more. The loss of such a promising young life leaves a void that is deeply felt by family, friends, and everyone who crossed paths with him.
