CVFD handles multiple incidents including crash response and mutual aid fire

Staff from CVFD gathered in the early afternoon to prepare for a scheduled meeting with county officials. The Chief and Deputy Chief met with county representatives, including management and Fire/Emergency Management personnel in Newton, to discuss ongoing coordination and operations. What began as a routine day quickly turned into a series of active responses and responsibilities for the department.

While returning to the station in QRV-148, the Chief and Deputy Chief came upon a five-vehicle motor vehicle crash on Highway 10 in another jurisdiction. After notifying dispatch and assessing the scene, it was determined that all occupants had safely exited their vehicles, with no serious injuries reported. Only minor fluid leaks were observed.

Incident command was established on-site, and traffic incident management procedures were quickly put into action. Crews deployed spill control measures and absorbent materials to manage the fluids, while proper authorities were notified. CVFD personnel remained on scene assisting with traffic control as Highway 10 was fully closed for over an hour. Highway Patrol and tow operators worked together to investigate the incident and clear the roadway.

Following the response, CVFD members attended the County Fire Association meeting, where nine members were present—the highest attendance among county agencies. Attendees were provided updates on new training facilities at the airport, revised training procedures, and certification programs. Members also had the opportunity to test new driving and pumping simulators, adding a hands-on element to the training session.
