A routine evening in Shreveport turned deadly Tuesday night when 22-year-old Cameron Jones was shot outside an O’Reilly Auto Parts on West 70th Street. Shockingly, the man who fired the fatal shot didn’t flee the scene. Instead, he stayed put and called 911, telling dispatchers that Jones had tried to rob him.
Police arrived just after 8:30 p.m. to find Jones unresponsive. Medics pronounced him dead right there in the parking lot. The shooter fully cooperated with officers, answering all questions detectives asked, and no arrests have been made at this time.
Investigators have since confirmed that Jones and the shooter were not strangers. The two had a known history of verbal disputes, though exactly what escalated a prior argument into a deadly confrontation remains unclear. Earlier that day, Jones had stopped by the store on what friends described as a completely normal errand.
Detectives recovered firearms and shell casings at the scene and are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses to piece together the moments leading up to the shooting. An autopsy has been ordered to provide further clarity.
Shreveport police are urging anyone who was in the area with video footage or information to come forward. At this stage, whether charges will be filed rests entirely with prosecutors.
Friends and family remember Cameron Jones not for the violence that claimed his life, but for the person he was in the community. The tragedy is a stark reminder of how quickly everyday tensions can turn fatal, leaving questions, grief, and loss in their wake.
