A quiet Thursday night in Perry was shattered by violence when Diandre Oates, just 29 years old, was shot and killed at the Houston Lake Apartments. What began as an ordinary evening quickly turned into a tragic scene that has left a community shaken and searching for answers.

According to authorities, the incident happened around 9:30 p.m., when multiple gunshots suddenly rang out across the apartment complex. Residents reported hearing the loud cracks of gunfire echoing through the normally calm neighborhood. When officers rushed to the scene, they found Oates lying on a walkway inside the complex, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

First responders immediately began providing life-saving aid, doing everything they could to stabilize him. Despite their efforts, Oates tragically did not survive his injuries. He was pronounced dead after emergency crews were unable to save him.

Oates, a resident of Fort Valley, was simply living his life before the sudden act of violence cut it short. Those who knew him are now mourning the loss of a young man whose life ended far too soon.

Investigators have since been working tirelessly at the scene, collecting evidence and speaking with witnesses in hopes of understanding exactly what happened. Authorities have confirmed that they currently have a person of interest in the case, though they have not yet released a motive behind the shooting.

For now, the suspect remains at large, while detectives continue following leads they hope will soon result in an arrest. The shooting has left many residents in the area unsettled, raising concerns about safety in what is meant to be a residential community.
