Houston, Texas — The community is reeling after the tragic death of Marietta Allison, who was fatally shot in the neck in an apparent attempted robbery on the night of March 9, 2026. Allison, a devoted friend, had driven to Houston to support her close friend, Cassie Daniel, who is undergoing cancer treatment.
According to police reports, Daniel had been dropped off at her home after a long day of chemotherapy around 10:50 p.m. Allison circled the block to find parking when, moments later, Daniel heard a gunshot. Investigators determined that Allison had been shot during a robbery attempt. Her heart reportedly stopped immediately at the scene.
The suspect, 18-year-old Darius DeWayne Hall, allegedly took Allison’s purse and fled in her vehicle. Law enforcement officers located Hall driving the stolen car around 1 a.m., prompting a high-speed pursuit along the Southwest Freeway. The chase ended in a crash, after which Hall fled on foot. SWAT teams were deployed, resulting in a standoff that lasted several hours before Hall was taken into custody.
Court records indicate that Hall was under juvenile suspension at the time and had multiple prior charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Authorities have now charged him with capital murder, evading arrest with a vehicle, and tampering with evidence.
This incident has shocked the Houston Heights neighborhood, as Allison had been performing an act of kindness for her friend during a vulnerable moment. Community members and friends have expressed heartbreak over the senseless violence and called for justice for Allison and her family.
