A devastating crash on a quiet rural roadway in Boone County has taken the life of Jason K. Acup, leaving a community in mourning and investigators searching for answers.
Authorities report that the accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on March 5 along Manchester Road near Capron. According to preliminary findings, Acup was driving his 2008 Mercedes eastbound when his vehicle suddenly crossed the center line and entered the path of an oncoming 2022 Kia traveling westbound. The vehicles collided head-on in a violent impact that left little time for either driver to react.
Emergency crews from Boone County Fire Protection District #3, Sharon Fire Department, and MD-1 Emergency Services quickly responded to the crash scene. Despite their rapid arrival and lifesaving efforts, Acup, 49, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Kia survived the crash but suffered serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials have not yet released further details regarding the driverโs condition.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation to determine what caused Acupโs vehicle to drift across the center line. At this time, the reason remains unknown, and authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or noticed the vehicles before the collision to contact investigators.
