Wilmington, Delaware, is reeling after a deadly standoff on Ramsey Road left 35-year-old Daniel Shacklett dead. The terrifying ordeal unfolded around 3:50 p.m. when Shacklett reportedly fired multiple shots inside his home. His roommate, hearing the gunfire, fled immediately and called 911.

Police arrived quickly and found themselves facing an active shooter inside a residence. For nearly four hours, officers tried to negotiate, using phone calls, texts, and loudspeaker commands, but Shacklett refused to cooperate. He continued firing rounds that officers said appeared to be directed toward them, prompting a full lockdown of the block.

The situation escalated dramatically when Shacklett exited the house holding a shovel. Officers deployed a Taser and impact rounds, attempting to neutralize the threat without lethal force, but Shacklett retreated back inside. Moments later, he reemerged holding knives in both hands, advancing toward officers despite repeated warnings to stop.

At that point, multiple officers opened fire. Paramedics rushed to the scene, but Shacklett was pronounced dead on the front lawn, before he could be transported to a hospital. Remarkably, no officers or neighbors were physically injured during the standoff, and the roommate remained unharmed.

Neighbors described the scene as surreal, with police tape cordoning off the area while officers worked to de-escalate an impossible situation. The standoff has left the community grappling with grief and confusion, as friends and neighbors try to understand how a man known locally could end up dead outside his own home after such a prolonged confrontation.
