The community of West Hartford is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Camden Siegal, a 17-year-old senior at William H. Hall High School, who died after being shot while waiting for a ride in Hartford.
According to Hartford police, officers assigned to monitor the downtown area near Ann Street heard gunfire around 1:49 a.m. on Feb. 22. When they responded, they found Siegal unresponsive with a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in extremely critical condition. Despite doctorsโ efforts, he succumbed to his injuries Tuesday, two days after the shooting. Reports indicate Siegal had been waiting for an Uber ride when the shots rang out.
A second victim, a man in his 20s, later arrived at a hospital by private vehicle. Authorities said he remains in critical but stable condition. Police have not released information regarding a possible motive or suspects. The departmentโs Major Crimes and Crime Scene divisions continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the violence.
Superintendent Paul Vicinus confirmed Siegal was a senior at Hall High School and noted that other students from the district were present at the time of the incident. In response to the tragedy, West Hartford Public Schools has made grief counselors available to support students and staff coping with the sudden loss.
