Tragedy in Cedar Falls: 21-Year-Old Woman Fatally Shot During Apartment Dispute


Cedar Falls authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old woman during a dispute at her apartment Thursday evening. The victim, identified as Jaye’mya E’shay Sudduth of 1029 Maplewood Drive #8, was pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds, according to a Cedar Falls Police Facebook update.

Police responded to the apartment complex around 7:30 p.m. Feb. 5 after reports of a shooting linked to an altercation between acquaintances. Upon arrival, officers discovered Sudduth suffering from gunshot injuries. A 21-year-old man, who also resides at the apartment, was taken into custody without incident. Authorities have not announced any charges as the investigation continues.

Investigators are actively interviewing witnesses and processing evidence related to the dispute that escalated into deadly violence. While details about the nature of the disagreement remain limited, police stressed that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
