Los Gatos, CA — A tragic solo-vehicle accident claimed the life of one person early Friday morning on Highway 27 near Lark Avenue, prompting an ongoing investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The crash occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. on December 19, when authorities received reports of a vehicle collision on Highway 27 south of Lark Avenue. According to CHP officials, a Tesla traveling northbound lost control for reasons that have not yet been determined. The vehicle drifted off the roadway, plunged down an embankment, and violently crashed.
Following the impact, the Tesla burst into flames. The fire quickly spread to nearby vegetation, creating an additional hazard for first responders and prompting emergency fire suppression efforts. Despite their response, the driver—who was the sole occupant of the vehicle—was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
In the aftermath of the accident, northbound lanes of Highway 27 just south of Lark Avenue were temporarily shut down as authorities worked to secure the scene, extinguish the fire, and conduct preliminary investigations. Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes during the closure.
CHP continues to investigate the cause of the crash, including whether speed, road conditions, impairment, or mechanical factors may have played a role.
