Tragedy Near Library Park: Kenosha Community Reels After Teen Shooting

A quiet Wednesday night in Kenosha turned into a scene of heartbreak and fear after a deadly shooting near 6th Avenue and 60th Street, just one block from Library Park. According to the Kenosha Police Department, 16-year-old Isiah Cooper was killed, and two other teenagers were injured in the incident, sending shockwaves through the neighborhood and the wider community.

Police say officers responded to reports of gunfire in the area late Wednesday evening. When they arrived, they found three teens suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, Isiah Cooper was pronounced dead at the scene. The two other victims, both teenagers, were transported to a local hospital with injuries that authorities described as serious but non-life-threatening.

The shooting occurred in close proximity to Library Park, a space often associated with families, students, and community gatherings. Residents described hearing multiple gunshots followed by sirens, with many realizing only later how close the violence had struck to home. โ€œThis is a place where kids hang out, where people walk their dogs,โ€ one neighbor said. โ€œItโ€™s terrifying.โ€

As news spread, grief and anger rippled through the city. Friends and classmates of Isiah Cooper took to social media to share memories, calling him kind, funny, and full of potential. Community leaders echoed those sentiments, urging unity and renewed efforts to address youth violence.

The Kenosha Police Department has launched an active investigation and is asking anyone with information to come forward. No arrests have been announced at this time, and the motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.
