Small-Town Tragedy: Momence Bar Owner Courtney Drysdale’s Death Ruled Homicide

Momence, Illinois — A quiet rural community is reeling after the death of Courtney M. Drysdale, a 30-year-old bar owner whose life was tragically cut short. Authorities have confirmed that Drysdale’s death has been ruled a homicide following a disturbing discovery inside The Line, the bar she owned and operated near the Illinois–Indiana state line.

According to the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the establishment along Illinois Route 114 just before noon on February 2 after receiving a report of a possibly deceased person. Upon arrival, officers found Drysdale unresponsive inside the bar. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Based on preliminary evidence, detectives classified the case as a homicide, though officials have not released additional details.

Friends and colleagues identified Drysdale as the sole proprietor of The Line. She had planned to open the bar alone at 11 a.m. that morning, a routine she was familiar with. News of her death sent shockwaves through those who knew her personally and professionally.

Hailey Gershon, a longtime friend and bar employee, described Courtney as “the nicest person,” someone who consistently put others first even while facing her own challenges. Those close to her say she was deeply devoted to her family and took pride in running her business. Drysdale leaves behind a fiancé and a school-age daughter.
