The Detroit community continues to mourn the heartbreaking and preventable loss of Latricia Green Brown, a 40-year-old Henry Ford Hospital employee whose life was violently taken on August 22 in an act of domestic violence that has shaken the city and reignited urgent conversations about protection for abuse survivors.
Latricia was working in the hospital basement when she answered a knockโone she never should have had to fear. Standing there was her estranged ex-husband, Mario Dewayne Green, a man with a documented history of stalking, harassment, and intimidation toward her. According to court testimony, Green approached Latricia under the false pretense of asking for help paying a bill. What followed was a verbal confrontation that quickly turned deadly when he pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots, killing her at her workplace.
Surveillance footage later captured Green fleeing the hospital and driving away in a white Dodge Charger. A large-scale manhunt ended with his arrest the following morning. Prosecutors have since charged him with first-degree premeditated murder, aggravated stalking, and multiple weapons offenses. A second man, Anthony Lee-Lamont Barnett, has also been charged for allegedly helping Green evade police after the shooting.
What makes Latriciaโs death especially devastating is how hard her family tried to protect her. Loved ones sought personal protection orders, many of which were denied or never properly served. In the weeks before her death, Latricia reportedly voiced growing fear over Greenโs escalating behaviorโwarnings that now echo painfully in hindsight.
