Linwood Earl Williams Obituary: Beloved 75-Year-Old Killed in Tragic Hit-and-Run on Route 1

DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. — A quiet Friday evening turned into an unimaginable tragedy along Route 1 in Dinwiddie County, as Linwood Earl Williams, 75, of Snow Hill, North Carolina, lost his life in a devastating hit-and-run crash that has left a family and community in mourning.

According to the Virginia State Police, troopers were called to the 6500 block of Boydton Plank Road around 8:50 p.m. after receiving reports that a pedestrian had been struck. Investigators say Linwood had exited his vehicle, which was stopped in the turn lane leading into the Aldi Distribution Center. While standing in the roadway and speaking with the driver of a tractor-trailer stopped behind him, an unknown vehicle traveling northbound struck Linwood and fled the scene without stopping.

Linwood was rushed to Bon Secours Southside Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries despite life-saving efforts by medical staff. The driver responsible left behind devastation, unanswered questions, and a grieving family seeking accountability.

Those who knew Linwood remember him as a man of quiet strength, kindness, and wisdom. At 75, he was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend whose steady presence brought comfort to those around him. His roots in Snow Hill ran deep, and his absence will be felt far beyond the roadway where his life was taken.

This tragic loss serves as a painful reminder of how fragile life can be—and how one reckless act can forever alter countless lives. A family now mourns a loved one who should have made it home safely that night.
