A Mother’s Search for Justice: Unsolved Shooting Claims Life of 22-Year-Old Zavionne Payne

The Gautier community continues to grapple with grief and unanswered questions months after the tragic death of 22-year-old Zavionne Payne, who was shot and killed in September at the end of Dolphin Drive during a Gautier High School alumni event. What should have been a joyful gathering turned into a devastating act of violence that has left a family broken and a community searching for justice.

According to authorities, gunfire erupted near the end of the roadway, striking Zavionne and ending his life far too soon. Despite an ongoing investigation, no arrests have been made, and the individual responsible for the shooting remains at large. Police say they continue to follow leads, but the case remains unsolved, deepening frustration and fear among residents.

For Zavionne’s mother, Latoya White, time has not eased the pain—or the urgency. Each day without answers compounds her grief as she continues to plead for information that could lead to her son’s killer. She remembers Zavionne as a loving young man with a bright future, someone who was full of life, ambition, and kindness. His death has left a void that can never be filled.
