A shocking and unsettling incident unfolded in Marietta, Georgia, on Wednesday afternoon, when a 26-year-old woman, Rebekah Patterson, walked into the Cobb County Police headquarters and aimed a gun directly at a responding officer. What began as an ordinary interaction quickly escalated into a life-threatening situation, leaving both law enforcement and the local community in disbelief.
Around 4:00 p.m., Patterson entered the police station, requesting to speak with an officer. When one stepped outside to meet her, she suddenly drew a handgun, aiming it squarely at the officer. Despite repeated commands to drop the weapon, Patterson stood motionless, refusing to comply. The officer had no choice but to act swiftly to protect himself and others nearby, firing multiple shots at Patterson.
Patterson was struck and fell to the ground right outside the police building, just feet from where dozens of armed officers work daily. She was immediately rushed to the hospital in critical condition, fighting for her life. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has taken over the case, working to piece together the events leading up to Patterson’s actions.
