Authorities have made an arrest in a chilling double homicide that left a husband and wife dead inside their Katy, Texas home, a case investigators say was fueled by a long-simmering custody battle.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez identified the victims as 52-year-old Christopher Lopez and his wife, 52-year-old Trinette Lopez. Investigators believe the fatal shootings occurred around 5:43 a.m. on January 12, 2026, inside the coupleโs home on the 3700 block of Bent Springs Lane. Deputies were called to the scene shortly after 6 a.m. when one of the coupleโs adult children discovered both parents shot inside the residence.
The suspect, 42-year-old Norman Lee Johnson Jr., was arrested without incident in Round Rock, Texas, by members of the U.S. Marshals Lone Star Task Force. He was booked into the Williamson County Jail and now faces Capital Murder charges in connection with the killings.
According to Sheriff Gonzalez, investigators believe the violence stemmed from ongoing custody disputes involving the coupleโs 7-year-old adopted daughter, who was inside the home at the time of the shooting. Johnson is the childโs biological father and had reportedly objected to custody and visitation arrangements for years.
Court records and family statements reveal a troubling history. In October 2024, Johnson was charged with harassment after allegedly threatening to kill Christopher Lopez over visitation issues. Relatives also told investigators Johnson had made repeated threats and had a violent criminal history, including a separate alleged assault outside Harris County.
