Meridian, ID — What began as a tense confrontation on I-84 escalated into a shocking act of extreme violence on Sunday afternoon when 23-year-old Jacob Streat allegedly opened fire on 27-year-old Israel Castrejon Trejo in a crowded McDonald’s parking lot near 195 East Central Avenue. Witnesses reported the confrontation moved quickly from heated words to more than a dozen gunshots, leaving Trejo unarmed and defenseless.
Emergency calls flooded 911 around 12:39 p.m., alerting authorities to shots fired. Responding officers found Trejo gravely injured, bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics worked for hours to save him, but he was pronounced dead at 4:38 p.m. Streat, also from Nampa, remained at the scene and was taken into custody without incident.
Prosecutors have described the incident as “extreme and violent,” highlighting the terrifying nature of the attack. Streat has been charged with second-degree murder, and his bond was set at two million dollars amid concerns about public safety. Authorities are now reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses to reconstruct how a road rage incident spiraled into a fatal shooting.
For Trejo’s family and friends, the tragedy has left a profound void. Loved ones remember him as a young man with a life full of potential, suddenly cut short in a senseless act of violence. The community is left grappling with the reality that a routine drive and a brief argument could end in such a devastating loss.
