Lynchburg police are currently investigating the tragic fatal shooting of 32-year-old Kennija Ware, a local resident, in the 700 block of Jackson Street early Saturday morning. The incident occurred on January 24, 2026, when officers responded to reports of shots fired at approximately 2:27 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers began searching the area and, with the help of Ware’s family, discovered her. Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene shortly afterward. Authorities believe the shooting was a targeted attack, but they have assured the community that there is no known ongoing threat to public safety.

While investigators are actively working to piece together the details surrounding the shooting, they have yet to release specific information about suspects or the circumstances leading to the tragic event. Initially, the Lynchburg Police Department withheld Ware’s identity to allow time for family notification but later confirmed her identity after informing her loved ones.
