The close-knit neighborhood networks, regional high school campus circles, and dedicated public safety groups of Huntsville, Alabama, and the broader Madison County area are draped in a heavy blanket of profound sorrow and intense heartbreak following the tragic passing of young Li Mjay. The exceptional 16-year-old local resident, beloved companion, and cherished family pillar lost his life unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, following a devastating domestic weapon assault. The catastrophic neighborhood shooting has left his loving family members, close intermediate classroom peers, and an extensive network of lifelong community friends completely shattered as they collectively navigate an immeasurable physical and emotional void. Li Mjay was a remarkably bright, energetic, and genuine young man whose extraordinary daily warmth, vibrant approach to life, and constant kindness left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

According to official emergency response updates from the Huntsville Police Department and local public safety dispatchers, multi-agency rescue squads rushed to a residential property in the 4900 block of Lumary Drive on Tuesday afternoon after receiving frantic 911 calls detailing an active gunfire incident. Upon arriving at the scene, patrol officers quickly secured the location before discovering the teenage victim completely unresponsive, having suffered a fatal gunshot wound.

First responders immediately executed high-priority lifesaving protocols and initiated advanced clinical measures; however, despite intensive on-scene interventions by emergency medical personnel, he tragically succumbed to his severe ballistic trauma and was pronounced deceased. Investigators swiftly took his 19-year-old cousin, Santravious Shermaud Westry, known locally as “Lii Trey,” into custody, subsequently booking him into the Madison County Jail on felony charges of Manslaughter in connection with the accidental firearm discharge. Private family care services will be finalized by the family.

May his gentle soul rest in eternal peace.
