The close-knit neighborhood networks, regional artistic circles, and dedicated healthcare communities of Montreal, Quebec, and the broader province are draped in a heavy blanket of profound sorrow and intense heartbreak following the tragic passing of Xavier Roberge. The exceptional 17-year-old local youth lost his life peacefully in May 2026 following a brave, seven-year battle with pediatric brain cancer. The catastrophic loss of a young life cut short has left his loving family members, close childhood peers, and an extensive network of province-wide supporters completely shattered as they collectively navigate an immeasurable physical and emotional void. Xavier was a remarkably strong, kind-hearted, and genuine young man whose extraordinary resilience, quiet courage, and unwavering hope since his initial diagnosis in 2019 at the age of 10 left an indelible mark on thousands who followed his journey.
He is survived by his devoted father, well-known Canadian comedian, director, and author Jonathan Roberge, alongside close family members and an expansive public community that stood steadfastly by his side throughout years of complex medical treatments. In a deeply moving statement, his father shared that Xavier fought proudly until his very last breath, allowing him to leave this world with his head held high. The family extended their deepest gratitude to the specialized medical teams at CHU Sainte-Justine and the CHUM, as well as supportive organizations including Leucan, the Charles-Bruneau Foundation, and the Children’s Wish Foundation.
Xavier’s inspiring journey has brought vital public awareness to pediatric oncological research. In his honor, plans are underway to establish a charitable foundation dedicated to advancing cancer research funding. Out of respect for the family’s wishes during this period of grief, funeral services will remain strictly private, with a public celebration of life to be coordinated at a later date.
