The close-knit neighborhood networks, local faith congregations, and regional community circles of McAlester, Oklahoma, and the broader Pittsburg County area are draped in a heavy blanket of profound sorrow and intense heartbreak following the tragic passing of Aspen Jae Brooks. The exceptional 15-year-old local youth lost her life unexpectedly on Saturday, May 30, 2026, following a sudden, devastating medical event. The catastrophic loss has left her loving family members, close-knit school classmates, workplace peers, and an extensive network of lifelong friends completely shattered as they collectively navigate an immeasurable physical and emotional void. Aspen was a remarkably bright, compassionate, and genuine young woman whose extraordinary smile, infectious laughter, and profound devotion to her faith left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Born on October 1, 2010, Aspen was the cherished daughter of Skye Donnell Brooks (Mayeux) and stepfather Justin. Known affectionately by her family as “Monkey,” she recently completed her freshman year at Epic Charter School and was a beloved team member at the local McAlester Chick-fil-A. She was an active, dedicated member of the Apostolics of McAlester Church, where her vibrant faith shaped her daily life. Aspen possessed an immense passion for hair, makeup, tanning, and anything pink, but her greatest earthly joy came from spending time with her loved ones and caring for children, especially her foster baby brother, Thomas, and the little ones who lovingly called her “Lala.”
Family and friends gathered for a deeply emotional visitation at Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory. A beautiful funeral service celebrating her unforgettable legacy was held at the Bishop Chapel of Memories, officiated by Rev. Joel Price, followed by private cremation arrangements.
