Patricia Shepard Obituary, Hammond, LA High-Impact Firearm Discharge Death: Innocent Worker Slain While Receiving Ride Home Near Westin Oak Drive

The close-knit neighborhood networks, local retail workforces, and regional community circles of Hammond, Louisiana, and the broader Tangipahoa Parish area are draped in a heavy blanket of profound sorrow and intense heartbreak following the tragic passing of Patricia Shepard. The exceptional 50-year-old local resident lost her life unexpectedly during the early morning hours of Thursday, June 4, 2026, following a devastating gas station shooting. The catastrophic homicide has left her loving family members, close workplace peers, and an extensive network of lifelong friends completely shattered as they collectively navigate an immeasurable physical and emotional void. Patricia was a remarkably hardworking, kind, and completely innocent woman whose sudden and violent departure has left an entire city reeling while awaiting answers regarding the deadly encounter.

According to official emergency response updates from the Hammond Police Department, patrol officers rushed to the Chevron gas station located on Highway 190 near Westin Oak Drive at approximately 1:15 a.m. following urgent reports of rapid gunfire. Upon arrival, first responders discovered Patricia sitting inside a gray sedan suffering from multiple, severe high-impact gunshot wounds. Tragically, she sustained unsurvivable injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary forensic findings indicate that Patricia was an innocent bystander simply catching a ride home from work when a stolen white sedan pulled alongside her vehicle. Two suspects exited and unleashed a horrific barrage of 70 to 80 rounds into the car. Police Chief Edwin Bergeron Jr. confirmed the attack was a tragic case of mistaken identity, as the gunmen targeted the car believing a different individual was inside. The suspect vehicle, linked to a carjacking in Mississippi, fled westbound toward Interstate 55. Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Dustin Williams.
