18-Year-Old Killed in Oakshire Lane Homicide Incident

The close-knit community of Pueblo, Colorado, is deeply mourning the tragic and untimely loss of Desi Ortiz, who passed away on June 1, 2026, at just 18 years old. His life was abruptly cut short following a fatal shooting incident that has left family members, friends, and neighbors in profound sorrow as they struggle to process a devastating loss.

According to official statements from the Pueblo Police Department and the Pueblo County Coroner’s Office, the violent encounter occurred in the 2100 block of Oakshire Lane, where local ShotSpotter technology successfully detected active gunfire. Following the shooting, a vehicle involved in the incident quickly fled the scene and stopped in the 1500 block of Constitution Road, where the driver awaited emergency services due to Desi having sustained a severe gunshot wound. He was rushed to the Parkview Emergency Room, where, despite the best efforts of medical teams, he was later pronounced deceased.

Because the initial gunfire occurred in close proximity to East High School, the building was temporarily placed under a secure perimeter while law enforcement officers swept the area. Authorities have confirmed this case marks the ninth homicide in Pueblo County this year. A teenage suspect subsequently surrendered to law enforcement and is currently facing charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder.

Beyond the ongoing criminal investigation, Desi is being remembered for the vibrant life he lived and the positive impact he left on those around him. At just 18 years old, he stood directly at the beginning of adulthood, filled with hopes, dreams, and bright aspirations that have now been cruelly cut short. Family and friends describe him as a warm presence whose memory will be carried forward through shared moments.
