Tragedy on State Route 741: Teen Driver and Woman Killed in Head-On Crash

A quiet Friday night in Turtlecreek Township turned into a night of unimaginable loss when a 17-year-old driver in a 2019 Tesla Model 3 drifted across the center line and collided head-on with a northbound GMC Terrain. The crash occurred just before 10 p.m. on State Route 741, a normally peaceful stretch of road, leaving no survivors.

Dylan Sougstad, driving south, struck 53-year-old Chastity Smith head-on in a violent impact that sent both vehicles careening into the darkness on opposite sides of the highway. First responders who arrived near milepost 6 found the wreckage devastating. Despite their swift efforts, both Dylan and Chastity were pronounced dead at the scene, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

Authorities closed the road for hours between Hamilton Road and State Route 63 to investigate how a clear night turned into such a tragic disaster. As of now, police have not released a cause for why Dylanโ€™s vehicle drifted across the yellow line, leaving many questions unanswered. Investigators are carefully examining the scene, but the sudden, violent nature of the crash has made the loss especially heartbreaking.

Those who knew Dylan describe him as a typical teenager, while friends and family of Chastity remember her as a devoted mother and member of the community. The collision has left both families grappling with sudden grief, and neighbors are struggling to comprehend how an ordinary evening ended in tragedy.

Our deepest, most sincere condolences go out to the families of Dylan Sougstad and Chastity Smith. The memories of their lives, though cut far too short, will live on in the hearts of those who loved them. State Route 741 will forever bear the weight of this tragic night.
