A heartbreaking incident that occurred on Christmas Day 2024 has resulted in a prison sentence for a former Milwaukee County Transit System bus driver whose momentary lapse behind the wheel led to the death of an elderly man.
Authorities say Montrell Pharm, 53, was operating a city bus in Milwaukee around 11 p.m. when he reportedly fell asleep while driving. According to investigators, the bus drifted off its path, striking several parked vehicles before hitting Robert Clemons, a 79-year-old man who was standing along the roadside with his grandson while repairing their truck.
The collision proved devastating. Reports indicate Clemons was run over and dragged beneath the bus for nearly a block before the vehicle finally came to a stop. Despite the efforts of first responders who quickly arrived at the scene, Clemons tragically died from his injuries.
His grandson was also struck during the incident, suffering a broken arm and injuries to his leg. Though badly hurt, he attempted to run after the bus for a short distance before the pain forced him to stop. A nearby bystander ultimately managed to flag down the bus and alert the driver to what had happened.
