Tragic Loss in Chesterfield: 14-Year-Old Finley Dawson Dies After Electric Motorbike Collision

Chesterfield is in mourning following the heartbreaking death of 14-year-old Finley Dawson, who lost his life after a collision between an electric motorbike and a car on Newbold Road on Thursday, March 5, at approximately 8:30 p.m. Finley was riding with a 15-year-old pillion passenger when their motorbike collided with a Kia Sportage. Both boys were thrown into the road and rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. Tragically, Finleyโ€™s injuries were deemed โ€œnon-survivable,โ€ and he passed away the following day.

Derbyshire Police confirmed that the pillion passenger remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition. Specialist officers are providing support to Finleyโ€™s family during this incredibly difficult time. A police spokesperson said, โ€œOur thoughts go out to them at this difficult time.โ€ The driver of the Kia is being treated as a witness and is fully cooperating with officers. No arrests have been made as the investigation continues.

The families of both boys have issued a joint statement highlighting the dangers of electric motorbikes on public roads: โ€œThere is a reason these bikes are banned from the road, and devastatingly Finley has paid the ultimate price in losing his life. His friend has sustained serious injuries and has to come to terms with growing up without his best mate. Although the thrill of riding an electric bike on the road seems exciting, it can also be fatal. That quick thrill is not worth the risk.โ€

The tragic incident has left the community reeling, and it serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with electric motorbikes being ridden on public streets, especially by young riders. Friends, family, and neighbors continue to honor Finleyโ€™s memory, remembering him as a vibrant young boy whose life was cruelly cut short.
