With deep sadness, family and friends announce the passing of Robert Vedder, 73, of East Haven, who peacefully passed away on March 9, 2026, at Yale New Haven Hospital. Robert lived a life defined by dedication to his family, service to his community, and a humble appreciation for lifeโs simple moments.
Born on October 26, 1952, in New Haven, Robert was the son of the late Franklin and Audrey (Hagen) Vedder. He shared a loving marriage of 47 years with his devoted wife, Margaret โPegiโ (McKay) Vedder, a partnership built on love, loyalty, and countless shared memories.
Robert was a proud father to his two daughters, Jaime Giacalone (Jae) and Samantha Vedder (Tim Emini), both of East Haven. His greatest joy in later years came from his beloved grandchildrenโGabryella Vedder, Savannah Dyer, and Sophia Eminiโwho meant the world to him and brought constant happiness to his life.
A graduate of Eli Whitney Technical High School in Hamden, Robert was known for his determination even as a student, where he enjoyed running cross-country track. After graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant during six years of service. During his military career, he received the Organized Marine Corps Reserve Medal (1st Award) and earned the Rifle Expert Badge four times, reflecting his dedication and discipline.
Robert continued his commitment to helping others as a volunteer firefighter with Bradford Manor in East Haven and later as a paramedic. He was also co-owner of Nutiles Ambulance Company, playing an important role in emergency services within the community.
Professionally, Robert spent 30 years at Pratt & Whitney, where he worked as a Machining Manager before retiring. In retirement, he cherished the quiet joys of lifeโspending time with his granddaughters, caring for his dogs, and sitting on his porch feeding birds and squirrels.
