The community of Jacksonville is mourning the tragic loss of Staci Lee Davis, who was fatally shot on the night of March 7, 2026, following a reported argument near a residential intersection in the city.
According to authorities, the incident occurred around 10:23 p.m. near the intersection of Gum Branch Road and Williamsburg Parkway. Officers responded quickly after receiving reports of a shooting and arrived to find Davis suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the rapid response from emergency personnel, she was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say the shooting reportedly began as an argument involving Michael Ray Davis Jr.. Witnesses at the scene provided police with a description of the individual involved, allowing officers to locate and detain him nearby later that same night.
When authorities searched the suspect, they reportedly recovered a two-tone Smith & Wesson SW40VE .40 caliber handgun. Court documents later revealed that Davis Jr. had a prior felony conviction for involuntary manslaughter, which legally prohibited him from possessing any firearm.
Following his arrest, Davis Jr. was transported to the Onslow County Detention Center, where he is currently being held without bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for March 9 as investigators continue working to determine the events that led up to the fatal confrontation.
