A devastating tragedy unfolded before sunrise on February 28 along Interstate 70 near downtown Columbus, Ohio, when a vehicle barreled into an active highway construction zone, killing 25-year-old construction worker Jordan Thomas and fleeing the scene. The shocking hit-and-run has left coworkers, family members, and the broader community grieving while authorities work urgently to identify the driver responsible.

According to reports, a maroon Toyota sedan, believed to be an early-2000s model, entered the work zone at high speed. Instead of slowing down or maneuvering around the construction area, the vehicle slammed directly into equipment set up for an Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) project. The car first struck a generator before fatally hitting Thomas, who was working with a road construction crew at the time.

Emergency responders arrived quickly after the crash was reported, but tragically there was nothing they could do. Jordan Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving coworkers in shock and disbelief at the sudden loss of someone they had worked alongside daily.
