Akron Hit-and-Run Claims Young Life: Richard Williams Left to Die on Russell Avenue

The Akron community is in shock after a tragic hit-and-run left 23-year-old Richard Williams dead. On the night of March 4, 2026, Williams was found severely injured on Russell Avenue near Laurel Avenue, struggling to survive after being struck by a vehicle. Neighbors who rushed outside described the scene as devastating, with injuries so severe it was almost impossible to look.

Paramedics arrived around 10:35 p.m., immediately rushing Williams to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center. Despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries the following morning. What makes this tragedy even more painful is that the driver never stopped. Authorities believe the vehicle involved was a white or silver Kia, likely a Sportage from 2021 to 2025, with visible damage including a smashed passenger-side mirror, dented hood, and possibly a cracked windshield.

The Akron Police Departmentโ€™s Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating, examining every piece of evidence to piece together the moments leading to this fatal collision. Investigators are urging anyone who witnessed the crash, noticed a damaged Kia in the area, or has information about the driver to come forward immediately.

Richard Williams was more than a victim of a senseless actโ€”he was loved by family, friends, and neighbors who are now grappling with the loss of someone they cherished. His death is a stark reminder of the dangers pedestrians face and the devastating consequences of leaving a crash scene.
